Spiritual Help from Dr. Seuss...

"Oh The Places You'll Go". First off, not only is this my favorite Seuss book, but I had never thought about how deep it actually is...it's easy to get lost in the pictures and rhyme schemes of it and miss the profound thoughts, but they're there. Been going through a rough patch as of late and so when I read "Oh The Places You'll Go" again yesterday...I payed more attention.

"You'll be on your way up!

You'll be seeing great sights!

You'll join the high fliers

who soar to high heights.

You won't lag behind, because you'll have the speed.

You'll pass the whole gang and you'll soon take the lead.

Wherever you fly, you'll be best of teh best.

Wherever you go, you will top all the rest

Except when you don't

Because sometimes you won't..."

Isn't that just like life! Flying high, having great expectations, perhaps getting so used to our comfort that we let down our guard , stop praying and seeking God's guidance cause things are going so good...and we're not ready for the times when we "DON'T"...because life is full of ups and downs.

"I'm sorry to say so

but, sadly, it's true

that Bang-ups and Hang-ups

can happen to you.

You can get all hung up

in a prickle-ly perch.

And your gang will fly on

You'll be left in the Lurch.

You'll come down from the Lurch

with an unpleasant bump.
And the chances are, then

that you'll be in a Slump.

And when you're in a Slump

you're not in for much fun

Un-slumping yourself

is not easily done."

Ever been there? In a slump...where you feel alone, even when you're in a room full of people? When you're so sick of the times you mess up and lament how you just can't seem to get it all together? The truth is life is messy...to expect to go through life in this world (especially not having knowledge and faith in the God of the Bible) and not hit bumps and snags is simply un-realistic. Dr. Seuss is right...Unslumping yourself is not easily done. I've found when I try to unslump myself, I make things alot worse...there's no real peace...maybe a little ease, but no real peace because that kind of peace that, the bible says "Passeth all understanding" only comes when we turn to God. People either go two ways when faced with trouble, towards God or away from Him. So, when you find yourself in a Slump (as you often will), remember this little piece of advice from Psalms...

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD which made heaven and earth."

Psalms 121:1-2

Have a Blessed Day!
